MORE OPEN GYM PARTY PICS

Check out these 49ers having fun in the gym!

OPEN GYM PARTY

The 49ers earned their third Star Party for above-the-line behavior. They earned an OPEN GYM PARTY by receiving 49 stars! Kids were able to take out any P.E. equipment that they wanted. Some kids played football or basketball. Other kids used the hula hoops, stilts, pogo sticks and jumpropes. Mr. Fiedler and Miss W were able to join in on the fun too! Hats of to the 49ers for having outstanding behavior!

The Seven Continents

The other Readers' Theater play was titled "The Seven Continents". This group was responsible for teaching the rest of the class about the seven continents on earth. This was a great connection what we have been learning about during social studies! Way to go!

Too Much Noise!

Last week, the 49ers practiced and performed another round of exciting Readers' Theater plays. One play was titled "Too Much Noise!" This play was about a father who was frustrated with all of the noise in his house. He went to the Rebbe for some help!

HALLOWEEN

We ended our day with a Halloween party. Each tribe decorated their own tablecloth with Halloween words and pictures. We chowed down on some disgusting and grotesque food--pirate eyes, zombie skin, witch fingers, mummy flesh, full moons, brain juice and vampire blood.

HOMECOMING PARADE

This week we had some visitors from Monona Grove High School. Some famous athletes, band members and other students held a homecoming parade for us in the hallway. It was great for us to get to see these great role models. It was great for the high school students to see the smiles on the kids' faces too! Go MG!

CURTIS PRAIRIE

Last week we took a field trip to Curtis Prairie. Before the trip, we talked about the things that we thought we would see at a prairie. The 49ers had a lot of great ideas. Some kids remembered their trip to Aldo Leopold in 1st grade. Aldo Leopold has a prairie area too. Our tour guides showed us around the prairie and taught us a lot about the plants and animals that live there. We got to see, touch, hear and smell all sorts of neat things. Did you know that Curtis Prairie is the oldest restored prairie in the world?!?! Cool! When we got back to school, we shared many of the interesting things that we learned on our trip.

OFFICIAL MAYWOOD MAIL CARRIERS

All 2nd graders were sworn in by Mrs. Lyons to be Official Maywood Mail Carriers. The 49ers have been delivering the school mail all week. They learned to collect, stamp, sort and deliver mail. They take a lot of pride in their work!

Clean and Organized

In 2nd grade, we work very hard to keep our desks and materials very clean and organized. Today, we spent a few minutes tidying our desks. On Friday, we'll go through our work to decide what can go home.

Feeding Johnny Mantis III

Today we fed Johnny Mantis III a monster cricket that was caught roaming the halls of Maywood. We're amazed by how quickly Johnny can catch its prey!

WACKY WEDNESDAY

TURTLE SPIRIT DAY--Today we dressed in our turtle clothes and did many fun turtle activites. Go Turtles!

SHARING NEWS

Corbin shared this really cool bottlecap snake that he made at home. He read about this "Funky Junk Art" in a magazine. He brought in this magazine and read the directions to the class for his News. Great idea Corbin!

SHARING NEWS

Every 49er gets one day a week to share some important news that is going on in the world. Sometimes we bring in newspaper articles to share. Maya summarized this neat article about alpacas. Their fleece makes great yarn for making clothes!

Stop by our blog from time to time to view pictures and find out about some of the fun things that we are doing in Room 49. Students will take part in creating their own blogs. They will learn how to type in text and add picture files.

Please post comments on our blog whenever you can. We love to see what others have to say about what we're doing in school!

We're currently under construction as we begin the new school year, but come back soon for an update!
